My Favorite Part Of Being A Lawyer

My favorite part of being a lawyer is going to court. The reason attorneys call juries and judges “factfinders” is because courts of law are designed to bring out the truth.

When I walked into the Virginia Beach Courthouse last week, I knew I was well‐prepared to present evidence that would prove my client was in the right. I love that feeling. It put a smile on my face.

In my work as a civil rights attorney, I feel a basic emotion deep inside me about what’s right and what’s wrong. That’s why I always get fired up when representing clients facing unfair discrimination. In my constitutional law cases — whether fighting against the abuse of power prohibited by the Fourth Amendment or arguing First Amendment cases involving defamatory lies on social media — I take great pride in zealously advocating for my clients.

And now, a chief reason I’m running for Congress is because extremist Supreme Court justices have emboldened Trump. In recent years, the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade and gutted the Voting Rights Act with its decision in Shelby County v. Holder.

Moreover, the Supreme Court has, at least for now, acquiesced to Trump’s legal strategy of delaying his criminal trials. Worst of all, Americans can do nothing but anxiously await for Trump’s Supreme Court appointees to decide whether they will accept Trump’s argument that he is above the law.

I believe the Supreme Court should continue the American tradition of justice that protects our rights instead of taking away fundamental freedoms like the right to choose and the right to vote.

For years, I served as a court-appointed attorney representing indigent defendants. I have also defended businessmen and women accused of “white collar” crimes. Trust me when I say I certainly believe that everyone deserves a fair trial and the presumption of innocence. But let’s be clear: no man is above the law.

Trump should not be immune from prosecution because he was president. To do so would break our Constitution by wrecking the balance of power. America would become a de facto dictatorship.

I’m running for Congress to stand up for truth and the rule of law.

I’m respectfully asking you to make a contribution toward my campaign — please help us in our fight to restore truth and honor to Congress →

Thank you for supporting our campaign for truth, justice, and democracy. I appreciate it with all my heart.
