As a constitutional and civil rights lawyer, Jake Denton understands the origins of our fundamental laws. I am comforted by his willingness to sacrifice a peaceful family life and sidetrack his legal career to represent the 2nd District in Congress. In our complex world, we must have leaders who appreciate fully the unique laws of our nation and their history.
Years ago, I referred a military member to Denton who desperately needed his legal counsel. Denton worked tirelessly and won the case. I know Denton never received full compensation for all the time he spent saving the future of that young person.
We need politicians who know the law, respect the law and have put it to practice in court while under pressure to deliver. Congress needs qualified reinforcements who understand our rights and are able to defend them. We are fortunate to have educated, well-trained, competent and willing candidates in Hampton Roads, like Denton. I applaud him for his effort and wish him luck in the June 18 primary.
